The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned that any alternative passport application platforms should be considered fraudulent.
In a public statement, the agency dismissed recent allegations circulating online about its passport application and payment system, describing them as false, misleading, and capable of confusing the public.
The service reaffirmed that its digital passport process is secure and operates strictly through its official portal. It stressed that its system is government-approved, transparent, and accessible only through its authorised website.
According to the agency, the official portal remains the sole platform for all passport-related applications and payments, both for Nigerians within the country and those in the diaspora.
The NIS also rejected claims that any religious organisation or private entity is involved in its payment process. It stated clearly that it has not authorised any group or individual to act as an intermediary or to receive payments on its behalf.
Addressing specific claims being circulated, the agency described them as entirely untrue and not reflective of its processes or operations.
The service added that it has begun investigating the source of the misinformation and warned that appropriate action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
Members of the public were advised to rely only on official communication channels and to avoid using unofficial links or third-party agents when applying for passports.
