Youths in Ogbomoso have announced a total shutdown of commercial and social activities across the town beginning Monday, in protest against what they describe as the government’s slow response to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area.
The announcement was made through public mobilisation efforts across the town. Groups of youths and elderly residents were seen moving around with megaphones, urging residents to participate in the planned shutdown.
Some of the youths carried placards, while others rode motorcycles through major streets making announcements and encouraging community members to support the protest.
Speaking in Yoruba through a megaphone, one of the youth leaders called on residents to join the action, stating that there would be no buying or selling in Ogbomoso and that businesses should remain closed on Monday.
According to the organisers, the shutdown will affect markets, workplaces, and vehicular movement throughout the town. They said the protest is intended to draw attention to the continued captivity of the abducted pupils and teachers and to pressure authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts toward their rescue.
The youths also appealed to residents to remain peaceful during the protest.
The planned action comes amid growing concern among families and community members over the prolonged captivity of the victims, with many expressing frustration over what they perceive as inadequate efforts to secure their release.
