Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been directed to hand over his position following a minor cabinet reshuffle approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to an official memo signed by George Akume, Edun and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, are to step down from the Federal Executive Council, with their replacements already named.
Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance and will now take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Similarly, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will hand over to Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been named ministerial nominee and designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The directive requires that all handover processes be completed on or before the stated deadline.
No specific reason was provided for the reshuffle, but it was explained that the changes are aimed at strengthening coordination in governance and improving economic delivery under the administration’s agenda.
The president expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and indicated that efforts to revitalise the cabinet would be ongoing.
Wale Edun, appointed in 2023, previously served as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance and has extensive experience in banking, corporate finance, and economics.
Taiwo Oyedele, a public policy expert, accountant, and economist, previously led the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and built a long career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he rose to the position of fiscal policy partner.
