Manchester United defeated Coventry City 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 scoreline in their nervy FA Cup semi-final tie on Sunday.
The Red Devils qualified for the FA Cup final despite losing a three-goal lead to the Championship side.
Goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes had put the United in a commanding 3-0 lead as they showed their superiority early on.
The comeback began on 71 minutes when an unmarked Ellie Simmons swept home Fabio Tavares’ cross from inside the area.
Callum O’Hare then saw his shot from 20 yards deflected into the next via Aaron Wan-Bissaka to make the scoreline 3-2.
The Manchester United defender was also at fault for the next goal after handling the ball in the 18-yard box. Hajj Wright stepped up to the spot to send Andre Onana the wrong way, sparking wild jubilation from the Coventry fans.
Coventry hit the bar and had a goal disallowed after VAR review in extra-time, and with the match ending 3-3, penalties were required to settle the affair.
The spot kicks swung in United’s favour, and Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning penalty for United following two missed kicks from Coventry.
Erik ten Hag’s team will on May 25 face local rivals, Manchester City, in the final of the oldest club competition in football — a repeat of last year’s final.
