Adedokun Waliyu Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered weapons and other items during an operation that foiled an attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents to extort residents in Yobe State.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from communities.
According to the statement, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026.
The troops encountered the terrorists and immediately engaged them with superior firepower.
During the gun battle, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully targeted and immobilised, while its driver was neutralised.
Captain Goni said four other terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds after they were overwhelmed by the troops.
A follow-up exploitation operation conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle and several items.
Recovered items include 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have supported terrorist logistics and operational activities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven offensive operations against terrorist groups in collaboration with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens.
It added that operations will continue until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace, security, and stability are restored across the North-East region.
