Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and the deployment of a specialised rescue team following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The decision was announced after a Federal Government delegation visited the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota, where pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School were abducted on May 15, 2026.
According to the government, the recruitment of the forest guards will be carried out in collaboration with the Oyo State government to strengthen security across the area.
In addition, the President directed a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The delegation was led by Femi Gbajabiamila and included Nuhu Ribadu, Kayode Egbetokun, Christopher Musa, and Sunday Dare.
The team conveyed the President’s concern over the incident and reassured residents that every effort was being made to secure the victims’ release.
Community leaders also requested the establishment of a military base in the area. The delegation promised to forward the request to the President for consideration.
Addressing residents, Gbajabiamila said the President was deeply troubled by the abduction and had directed security agencies to use all available resources to bring the children and teachers home safely.
He assured the communities that rescue operations would be intelligence-led and carefully coordinated, using both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to ensure the safety of the victims.
The delegation also visited the palace of the Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye to express sympathy to the people of Ogbomoso and met with the family of the late teacher, Mary Oyedokun.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers and improving security in the affected communities.
