Adedokun Waliyu President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as governor of Osun State, describing the victory as a reflection of the will of the people.
Tinubu conveyed his congratulations in a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
The President said he had called Adeleke to congratulate him on his election victory, adding that the result confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in the governor.
Tinubu said the outcome of the election reflected the will of the people and represented an assurance that democracy would continue to flourish in Nigeria.
He also praised the courage and discipline displayed by the other contestants, saying their participation strengthened the country’s democratic culture.
Tinubu wished Adeleke great success during his next four years in office and urged him to unite the people of Osun State and mobilise them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of how they voted in the election.
Adeleke of the Accord Party defeated his closest rival, Bayo Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, in the August 15 governorship election to secure a second term in office.
Adeleke received 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.
The Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner after confirming that he had satisfied the requirements of the law.
Reacting to the result, Tinubu, who is also a member of the APC, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
