Manchester United are willing to offer Paul Pogba the captaincy to convince him to stay.
The Mirror says United have told the 26-year-old that he will not be sold in the summer despite Real Madrid launching a charm offensive to prise him away from Old Trafford.
And now they are ready to hand Pogba more responsibility by making him skipper – and will also offer negotiations aimed at securing his long-term future on a new contract.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new leader next season.
Current club captain Antonio Valencia is leaving at the end of his contract and 33-year-old Ashley Young is expected to take more of a squad role.
Pogba, David De Gea and Chris Smalling have all worn the armband this season.
But Solskjaer wants to make a statement – and he regards Pogba as the man to follow in the footsteps of legends like Bryan Robson and Roy Keane.
