India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has resigned following nationwide youth-led protests over alleged irregularities in major public examinations.
Pradhan announced his resignation on Saturday, saying he had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The protests were led by the social media-driven Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which organized demonstrations demanding accountability over examination paper leaks and comprehensive reforms in India’s education system.
The protests, which began at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, spread across several parts of the country as thousands of students joined the movement.
During the demonstrations, police used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters attempting to march to Parliament.
The government held two rounds.
