Enzo Fernandez fired Chelsea FC into the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win against Leeds United, sealing victory with a first-half header in their semi-final clash at Wembley.
The goal came in the 23rd minute after Pedro Neto delivered a precise cross, allowing Fernandez to head into the far corner. It marked Chelsea’s first goal in nearly 300 minutes of play.
The win came in Chelsea’s first match after the sacking of Liam Rosenior, who was dismissed following a poor run of five consecutive defeats without scoring. His tenure lasted just over 100 days and ended after a heavy loss to Brighton, amid tensions with players and criticism of the squad.
Under interim manager Calum McFarlane, Chelsea showed improved cohesion and resilience to secure the victory and book a place in the final.
Leeds had chances to take the lead, with Brenden Aaronson missing an early opportunity, while Anton Stach came close to equalising with a long-range effort. Robert Sanchez made key saves to preserve Chelsea’s advantage.
Chelsea will now face Manchester City in the final on May 16 after Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Southampton 2-1. The London club, eight-time FA Cup winners, will be playing their 17th final and their first since 2022.
Despite a difficult season that has damaged their chances of qualifying for European competition, Chelsea now have an opportunity to end the campaign with silverware and restore some pride.
