The Gubernatorial Election slated for next Saturday has been postponed, Irohinoodua has learnt.
Sources close to the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC) told our correspondent in Abuja that INEC will soon announce the postponement hopefully on Thursday.
Irohinoodua heard that late this evening the Court of Appeal in Abuja granted INEC the right to reconfigure the BIVAS a relief the electoral body had sought. The decision of the Appeal Court was unanimous.
Our reporter was informed that the need for INEC to reconfigure its technology for a more efficient delivery informed the new decision.
This means the Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections across the country will now hold on March 18.
The court had been approached by aggrieved aspirants to stop INEC from tampering with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS deployed in last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in his application by his team of lawyers, led by Mr Alex Ejesieme, SAN sought six principal reliefs
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential candidate on the other hand, Atiku Abubakar’s lawyer, Adedamola Faloku, sought seven prayers from the tribunal.
INEC on the other hand hopes to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System in other to avoid hitches that characterised the last Presidential elections.
Officials said over 200 attempts were made to hack INEC portal by IT invaders.
A top INEC official told Irohinoodua “INEC will postpone the election. This is the only way and the most effective option to deal with the problem at hand.”
