The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has listed three Nigerians—Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, and Ademola Lookman—in its Best XI for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAF released the list, dominated by Nigerians, Senegalese, and Moroccans, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, about three days after the tournament concluded.
Victor Osimhen featured in six games for the Super Eagles as Nigeria won the bronze medal in Morocco. The Galatasaray forward scored four goals in the competition.
Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atalanta, had the most goal involvements at the AFCON, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Calvin Bassey, of Fulham, was a defensive standout for Nigeria, helping the team keep three clean sheets in the six matches he played. He played every minute for Coach Eric Chelle’s side in Morocco but missed the third-place playoff due to suspension.
Morocco and Senegal, the runners-up and champions respectively, also had strong representations in the team of the tournament. Morocco contributed four players: Yassine Bounou (goalkeeper), Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui, and top scorer Brahim Díaz.
Senegal’s Lions of Teranga had Moussa Niakhaté, Pape Gueye, Idrissa Gueye, and Sadio Mané, who won the Player of the Tournament award.
