Technical issues forced American Airlines to issue a nationwide ground stop in the U.S. on Christmas Eve, but it has been lifted.
The airline requested a ground stop from the Federal Aviation Authority early this morning and it was in place until around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
In a statement, American said a vendor technology issue affected flights, but it has since been resolved and flights have resumed. The ground stop lasted approximately one hour.
“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible,” read their statement.
Toronto Pearson said the technical issue briefly impacted flights this morning and passengers flying with American Airlines might see some impacts throughout the day.
The grounding couldn’t come at a worse time for the millions of travelers expected to fly over the next 10 days.
The Transportation Security Administration expects to screen 40 million passengers over the holidays and through January 2.
