Oyo State Police Command paraded a gang of five men alledged for kidnapping a Seventeen year old boy known as Shakiru Weti at Igangan Town, Ibarapa axis in Oyo State.
While addressing journalists at the State Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele Ibadan today 26th September, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olushina Olukolu said the suspected criminals were arrested following a report that was made to a Divisional Police Headquarters at Ayete by one Alhaji Abdul Saliu who is the Sheriki Fulani of Oyo State resident in Igangan.
” On 17th September, 2019 at about 2200hr, one Alhaji Abdul Saliu the Sariki Fulani of Oyo State resident in Igangan reported at Ayete Divisional Police Headquarters that a Fulani called Weti reported to him that an unknown gunman kidnapped his son Shakiru Weti aged 17 year to an unknown destination. But, on 22nd September, 2019 at about 1700hrs the abductors called and demanded for one million naira ransom (#1M).
The names of the suspects are Kehinde Adeoye aged 30 (Gang Leader). Yuguda Jayum 22, Bature Dogo 20, Kazeem Sule 39 and Maanu Garuba 22.
While briefing journalists on how the suspects were arrested, The Commissioner said ” The family members were encouraged to agree to pay the amount demanded. Hence, the money was handed over to one Babangida Shehu to be deposited at the agreed spot while the Police detectives laid ambush. Hence, at about 2000hrs, one Yuguda Jayum and one other came to pick the agreed ransom where it was kept.
“Consequently, in the process one Yuguda Jayum was arrested with the ransom of N1M intact while his accomplice escaped.
However, Yuguda Jayum has confessed to be the leader of the group that carried out the kidnapping. At about 0300hrs of the following day, detectives extended investigations to their hideout at Igangan where their victim was found tied and blindfolded and was rescued.
The victim, Shakiru Weti was rescued unhurt while one Kehinde Adeoye a member of the syndicate who was guarding the victim to prevent his escape was arrested. But, another cohorts Taiwo Adeoye who was armed opened fire on the team and escaped.
In the course of further investigations one Bature Dogo, Kazeem Sule and Maanu Garuba were also arrested in connection with the kidnapping case.
Upon interrogation Kehinde Adeoye, Yuguda Jayum, Bature Dogo, Kazeem Sule and Maanu Garuba all confessed to have masterminded the kidnapping of Shakiru Weti with Taiwo Adeoye and Sanda who are also members of the gang but presently at large.
Exhibit recovered from the suspected criminals are, One Gionee, One Million Naira Cash, two Itel and One Techno handsets the items were recovered from the duo of Kehinde Adeoye and Kazeem Sule who are members of the criminal gang that carried out the kidnap.
While speaking with journalists, Yuguda Jayum confessed to the crime, that he was sent to kidnap the boy Weli by Kehinde and Taiwo Adeoye, and after I have successfully kidnapped the boy, I and the boy were not allowed to go out of the house, everything we need were supplied to us by either Taiwo or Kehinde including our food, but I was arrested when I went to get the ransom, but unfortunately Taiwo is at large.
But Kehinde Adeoye denied his involvement in the issue as he said he only accommodated the kidnapped boy because he was told that the boy is a son of boss to Yuguda.
He said “I don’t know that the boy was kidnapped, I was only told that the boy is a son of Yuguda Jayum boss, and Yuguda told me that his boss owed him money, and that he only kidnapped the boy so to get back his money, moreso my twin brother Taiwo who is now at large is the one that has more relationship with those boys, my only mistake is that I accept to keep the kidnapped boy in my custody inside my house, and it was there that I was arrested.
The Commissioner of Police assured the people of Oyo State that the police is determined and prepared to continue to protect lives and properties before, during and after the yelutide season, he furthermore adviced the public to continue to partner with the police with very useful and timely credible information to enable the police serve the community better.
