Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) has warned the National Assembly and Governors of all states in the south to reject the proposed National Livestock Transformation Programme by the federal government.
Rising from its national congress in Ibadan, the association fulminated against a statement credited to The Senior Policy Adviser (Agriculture Interventions Coordination) in the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Andrew Kwasari that the federal government has not suspended the NLTP.
The communiqe, signed by its national president and secretary, Habib Olalekan Hammed and Olawale Ajao respectively, described as an affront on all Nigerians, a training session organised for the executives of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and its executives in eight states already penciled down for NLTP while the programme as not yet got the nod of majority of Nigerians.
“The federal government is hiding on establishment of NLTP having failed in its earlier introduction of cattle Ranching, cattle colony and RUGA settlement. President Buhari, being a herdman himself is just trying, by all means, force the idea of procuring land for herders forgetting that lands, in Nigeria, are controlled by state governments.
“Since no land, except the Federal Capital Territory, is owned by the federal government, we enjoin the presidency to abrogate NLTP and any other related programmes and only provide needed and unbiased supports to state governments to freely control agriculture.
“We are of suspicion that the presidency may want to amend the Land Use Act, in its morbid desire to usurp the constitutional role of state governments in land allocation, we hereby call on the National Assembly to resist any attempt to do so”.
The Yoruba youths association believes that NLTP holds no benefit to Nigeria as a nation but a threat to ist unity as it is widely believed to be a ploy to favour the Fulanis who are the kinsmen of President Buhari.
