Yoruba agitators in London, United Kingdom, have announced a plan to stage a protest on July 21 against the inhumane treatment of those arrested at the house of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, more commonly Sunday Igboho.
SaharaReporters recalled that operatives of the Department of State Services had on July 1 invaded Igboho’s residence in Soka, Ibadan Oyo State around 1am, killing two of his associates and arresting 13 persons.
Igboho, who escaped the raid, has since gone underground as the secret police declared him wanted.
Olayomi Koiki, a media aide to the freedom fighter, disclosed plans by agitators in the diaspora to hold a protest at the Parliament Square in London on the said date.
He listed five demands of the protest which are; one, the immediate release of Igboho’s aides; two, the quick release of the corpses of the two men slain by the DSS during the raid; three, call for the sick detainees to access medical care.
Others are; a halt to the witch-hunting of Igboho; five, asking that the DSS channels its energy to locating the bandits disturbing the South-West region.
Koiki said, “On the 1st of July was an assassination attempt on the life of Chief Sunday Igboho. The DSS with the Nigeria Military and French-speaking mercenaries came around 1:30am without a search warrant and kept firing for more than two hours.
“They killed two innocent Yoruba men. One was shot at point-blank while the second was murdered, both bodies were taken away. Also 12 Yoruba are still kept at the underground cell of the DSS without committing an offence. The property was damaged; there are bullets holes all over the house. Money and jewellery were stolen but not declared. Those arrested need medical attention as soon as possible.
“If Black Lives Matter, why is the world quiet when it comes to Yorubas. The government has refused to allow those in the custody of the DSS access to their lawyers because orders from above won’t allow it.
“Are we going to continue like this when we say enough is enough? Chief Sunday Igboho is not a criminal. The Government has refused to find out the locations of bandits and Boko haram killings thousands of Nigerians daily.
“Next week, join the protest in London, 21st July 2021 in front of the parliament. #IStandWithSundayIgboho.”
SaharaReporters reported earlier how DSS operatives continued to dehumanise the female among the 13 arrested aides of Igboho, refusing to allow her to change her underwear.
Sources at the DSS detention camp added that the operatives watch as Lady K is forced to strip herself; wash her clothes and dry them outside while she waits while being naked till they dry.
Those arrested at Igboho’s residence alongside her include Abdulateef Ofeyagbe, Tajudeen Erinoyen, Diakola Ademola, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Noah, Ayobami Donald, Adelabe Usman, Oluwapelumi Kunle, Raji Kazeem, Taiwo Opeyemi, and Bamidele Sunday.
