Engr. Oluyemi Ogundele, a chieftain of Egbe Omo Oduduwa Austria has condemned in the greatest form, the purported statement made by Mr Lekan Ekudayo the coordinator of the coalition of Oduduwa descendant COD on behalf of his organisation calling for total scraping or restructuring the Nigeria In Diaspora Commission NIDCOM and accusing the commission of promoting and spoon feeding the Nigerians in Diaspora who are causing confusion and sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria.
In a statement released in Vienna Austria on Friday the 22nd of January 2021. Engr Ogundele said he disagreed with the COD on this and that they are not in the best position to make such recommendation to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He agreed that there are many scrupulous Nigerian citizens in Diaspora who have no believe in Nigeria, This vocal minority does not wish Nigeria well and are promoting terrorism and hatred among Nigerians both home and in the Diaspora.
However, he said this individual are not been promoted by NIDCOM and that it is not the duty of NIDCOM to arrest or prosecute such individuals. In fact most of them are not even carrying the green Nigeria passport.
They are taking advantage of freedom of speech in the counties of their residents. If at all there is need for such intervention , that falls within the jurisdiction of the ministry of foreign affairs and not that of NIDCOM.
Furthermore, he believes that most Nigerians abroad are fun of comparing Nigeria with their host countries.
Nigeria like every other country has her own problem so we should stop seeing Nigeria as the worse country in the whole world. Who could ever imagine that USA could suffer such a big setback with their Domocacy.
It is a big surprise that such statement could come from a Yoruba organisation since this crime is not limited to the Yorubas alone. it is being committed by many Nigerians from different tribal and cultural background.
Further more Engr Ogundele mentioned that he hopes the fact that the Chairman and CEO of NIDCOM being a Yoruba lady has nothing to do with the statement.
On the contrary, well meaning Nigerians should appeal to the federal government to empower NIDCOM by quickly constituting the NIDCOM board this would enable NIDCOM perform her statutory duties more effectively.
Ogunyemi thanked and appreciated all Diaspora organisations promoting the good name and image of our dear County Nigeria in the Diaspora and praised Honorable Abike Dabiri Erewa for the good job she and her commission are doing.
