The Nigeria Police Force has claimed that it is the report from the pathologists that is delaying their investigation on the alleged murder case of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad.
This was stated by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin while giving his reaction to the demand made by a civil society organisation, #TakeItBackMovement urging the prompt release of the police result on the investigation into issues surrounding the death of MohBad.
Speaking with PUNCH, the police image maker re-emphasised that the force is yet to receive the report of the autopsy conducted on Mohbad from the pathologists.
The TIB Head of Gender Department, Omolola Pedro, had called on the police to “stop the needless delays, make public its findings from the investigation, and protect the rights of the deceased’s wife and child.”
The organisation also expressed concern that a prolonged delay in the investigation could expose Mohbad’s wife, Wumi, and child, Liam, to “multiple attacks such as cyberbullying, cyberstalking, organised malicious campaigns against their persons, and even physical harassment,” claiming that this was “the same fate Mohbad suffered while he was alive.”
Pedro had added that the police “must immediately conclude the investigation and make its findings public.”
The police spokesman, Hundeyin, in his reaction said, “We’re not the pathologists who carried out the autopsy.
“When they (the pathologists) give us their report, we’ll conclude our investigation. For now, that’s what we’re waiting for. Except they want us to do guesswork, we can’t guess; we need to get the report and see the content of the result and we don’t have it yet.”
Mohbad’s death on September 12 aroused outrage throughout Nigeria and beyond, prompting the police to form an investigation team to figure out what caused the singer’s death.
Hundeyin had tweeted in September that an “autopsy has been concluded” on Mohbad’s corpse and the police were “awaiting result.”
In November, the Lagos police said the autopsy report for Mohbad, conducted months ago had not been given to them.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had also said that a toxicology test to determine the cause of death of MohBad was taken to abroad because there was no facility to do it in Nigeria.
The governor said this at a town hall meeting held in Lagos earlier this month while answering a question asked by a journalist regarding the prolonged delay in concluding the investigation into the death of MohBad.
