The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has said that it has the right to seek justice in court over the way and manner the Nigerian Constitution and Electoral Act were subverted in the June 21, 2014 Governorship Election.
The party said that Governor Ayodele Fayose must be ready to face justice and stop playing to the gallery on his allegation that his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was plotting to use the Judiciary to remove him from power.
Fayose had at a press briefing in Ado Ekiti on Monday accused Fayemi of plotting to manipulate Supreme Court Justices to remove him from office.
The governor said the new plot was in furtherance to his earlier allegation that Fayemi, in cahoots with leaders and stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti and Abuja, were seeking to return to power through the backdoor, by enlisting a section of the Judiciary to revisit the 2014 governorship election in the state.
The state APC Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Kemisola Olaleye, who spoke at a rally organised by the party for members in Ado Ekiti Local Government said Fayose was being haunted by crimes allegedly committed against the Constitution.
Describing the APC as “the most popular party in the state waiting to chase Fayose out of power,” she promised a level-playing field for all aspirants jostling for the 2018 governorship ticket.
Olaleye warned Fayose to leave Fayemi out of his travails as Judiciary had the power to look into any infraction committed against the law, especially, with available fresh evidence.
She said, “Fayose has been saying that he is about to be removed from office and we in the APC are saying a resounding amen to his prayer. We are taking over power from him and we are determined to chase him out of office. He is afraid of his own shadow.
“If he likes, let him call thousands of press conferences. Ekiti people are tired of his government, civil servants, artisans, market women, youths, students, all of them are tired and they are waiting for APC to give them better life.”
The state APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said no amount of blackmail and propaganda by the governor would dissuade the party from seeking justice against the alleged use of military and other instruments of coercion to rig the 2014 poll.
Saying that the APC was embarking on a fresh membership mobilisation drive, he said the popularity of the APC was giving Fayose headache and raising fear in the PDP camp.
