US President Donald Trump’s government has asked countries to pay $1 billion for a permanent spot on his “Board of Peace” aimed at resolving conflicts. Member countries would join for three years, or longer if they contribute over $1 billion within the first year.
The board, chaired by Trump, would include leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Canadian Mark Carney. Its charter says it seeks “to promote stability, restore governance, and secure peace in conflict areas.”
The initiative has raised eyebrows, with critics questioning its implications for global institutions like the United Nations. The board’s focus initially was on Gaza rebuilding but now appears broader.
Countries invited include Egypt, Turkey, Argentina, and Canada. Trump named officials like Marco Rubio and Jared Kushner as members.
