United States President Donald Trump has claimed that his inauguration drew a record-breaking 80.7 million viewers, surpassing Ronald Reagan’s decades-old record.
Trump in a statement published on his X handle @realDonaldTrump said that data from Streams Charts has shown that due to coverage of his inauguration, the news section of YouTube set a new “All Time Viewership Record” with 9.6 million viewers.
Titled: “President Donald J. Trump’s Historic Inauguration Sets Viewership Record,” Trump who was inaugurated on January 20 as the 47th U.S President stated that the Inaugural Ceremony stream on President Donald J. Trump’s X account received a stunning 36.7 million views.
“In combination with TV viewership, an estimated 80.7 million viewers watched the President’s inauguration, which beats the previous record of 42 million viewers with Ronald Reagan’s Inauguration in 1981.”
However, this claim has been disputed. According to Nielsen, the TV viewership for Trump’s inauguration was approximately 31 million people, which is actually 19% lower than Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.
It’s worth noting that Trump’s inauguration committee spent a record amount on the event, but the details of the spending are unclear. Additionally, crowd-size experts have estimated that the crowd at Trump’s inauguration was significantly smaller than Obama’s, with one expert estimating that Obama’s crowd was three times larger.
While Trump’s claim of 80.7 million viewers is unsubstantiated, it’s possible that the total number of viewers, including online streaming, may have been higher than initially reported. However, without further evidence, it’s difficult to verify Trump’s claim.
