Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, has been elected as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors forum.
Mohammed Bello, his spokesman, confirmed this in a statement on Monday.
He said the choice of Tambuwal was unanimous “as all the governors resolved appointed him as their chairman”.
The election held at the party’s 88th national executive council meeting at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata, Abuja.
Tambuwal is to replace Seriake Dickson, the outgoing governor of Bayelsa state, who was reportedly absent at the meeting.
Dickson’s tenure will elapse on February 3.
Accepting the “onerous responsibility”, Tambuwal pledged to run an inclusive administration and to move the party forward.
Tambuwal, who was reelected for a second term in March, is a former speaker of the house of representatives.
He had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the PDP in the buildup to the 2015 elections. He had contested the governorship election under APC and won but returned to the PDP in 2018.
