The South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 SWAGA), has said it has uncovered plans by a section of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State to disrupt the upcoming congresses, in a drive to impose consensus delegates across the state.
The group however described the attempt as futile and urged all members to go out en-mass on Saturday and exercise their rights to vote and be voted for during the congresses.
They assured members that the congresses shall be hitch free, stating that measures are already in place to quell all plots to shortchange the people through electoral commotion and undue brigandage.
SWAGA, a group in the APC canvassing support for the choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as presidential choice, come 2023, said in a statement by its Ekiti Statel Chairman, Senator Tony Adeniyi, that: “those that are unsettled by the efforts of the National Caretaker Committee of the APC to conduct a free and fair congress in Ekiti state, have opted for violence and are plotting to disrupt the Saturday congresses, by using thugs to cause mayhem during the process.”
The statement further said that “information reaching us is that a group within the Ekiti APC, christened ‘Tokan-tokan, to which the governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, belongs has struck a deal with some members of the National Road Transport Workers (NURTW), in the state, to ensure only their group members have access to the voting arenas on Saturday.
“This was their resolve after all attempts to subdue and muzzle other members of the party, who they have schemed out of party affairs, failed, in the selfish drive to hold down and control the soul of the party in Ekitii state, unfettered.
“The Tokan-tokan group started by hijacking all the forms sent to our State by the National Caretaker Committee, and were distributing them only to their members before a stiff resistance was mounted by SWAGA, which drew the attention of the party’s top hierarchy and the consequent accessing of forms for our members directly from the national headquarters of the party on Wednesday,” Senator Adeniyi said.
He stretched further that; “as if that was not enough, the devil went back to work with more vigour, as the house they plan to build with saliva was feeble and kept collapsing. They have now reached their wits end and have settled for violence as the only option left in the kitty.
“They shall fail. We implore our members not to be afraid and go to the polls on Saturday to perform their civic rights. We are sure that no evil shall befall them as truth will always triumph over evil. To every step they take, we are returning with double. We shall be on field together for the congress and we are sure the will of the people shall prevail over every selfish plot to polarize the party and force members to kowtow to their selfish schemes,” the release stated
