The governor of the State of Osun disclosed this two days ago, during a meeting with rice farmers on ways of improving output and packaging of local rice in the state at Onilapa farm, Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area.
He said, Osun has the capacity to supply the South West region the total rice needed and the state government will continue to support local farmers to meet their reach.
“New research has shown that the State of Osun has enough capacity to meet the rice needs of the South West.”
“Our government will continue to provide support for these local farmers until they reach the target of 20 tonnes per hectare.” Gov. Rauf said.
The Governor also said the state government is working with various research institutes to offer insight and ideas to rural farmers towards improving their capacity.
“Our intervention in agriculture did not begin today as we have prioritized the welfare of these rural farmers from the get-go and this is why we willfully uptook the task of opening up rural areas through the construction of roads under Our Rural Access and Mobility Project (ORAMP).” He added
He then called on the masses that now is the time to support and participate in agriculture because it’s the only way for any nation to be free from slavery.
“Any nation that cannot feed itself will continue to be enslaved. It is time to embrace agriculture and take our minds from the money coming from the crude oil as the commodity can no longer sustain our economy”, he added.
