Restoration of Peace through dialogue has been identified as major means and antidote of guaranteeing national unity and peaceful co-existence of the country.
The Osun State Commandant of National Unity and Peace Corps, NUPEC, Mr Toyin Moses Ayodele who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Osogbo the state capital, said peace remained the major ingredient for national development.
Ayodele who spoke on behalf of his National Commandant-General, Chinedu S. Nneji, said the corps having reliazed the importance of peace in national development had made mediation and conflict resolution its core values.
The Commandant posited that the corps would continue to maintain its leading roles as mediators to restore permanent peace in the country and resolve all security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Ayodele, who noted that the task of restoring peace to the country was joint responsibility of all, said the corps would continue to engage stakeholders in security issues including traditional rulers and community leaders in its sensitization programmes.
He maintained that the corps had been working with other security agencies in the state with a view to sustaining permanent peace in the state.
Speaking on the recent arrest of some members of the peace corps of Nigeria in Lagos, the NUPEC National Commandant-General, urged the organization to settle its rifts with other sister security agencies, urging the organization to desist from acts capable of soiling the image of the organization.
The NUPEC boss, who decried the activities of the peace corps of Nigeria said some of their activities negate the core values of peace restoration and sustainability.
He emphasised the need for the leadership of the organization to work with national unity and peace corps to ensure that its secure presidential accent to the harmonised bill of the organisations awaiting president accent.
Ayodele, lauded the present administration in the state for its commitment to security of lives and property and assured that the corps would not rest on its oars in the task of ensuring peace in the state.
