The Zamfara state police command says it has rescued six women and a one-year-old child abducted in the state.
Muhammad Shehu, the state police spokesman, said on Sunday that the victims were abducted at Kadamutsa village in Zurmi LGA of the state on November 24.
He said the police successfully rescued the victims on Zurmi-Jibia Highway with the help of an intelligence report acted upon and the assistance of local vigilante group.
“Police operatives mobilised to the area where a search-and-rescue operation was conducted along Zurmi-Jibiya federal highway leading to the unconditional rescue of all the victims unhurt,” NAN quoted him as saying.
“The rescued victims were taken to hospital for medical checks, debriefed by the police and returned to their families.”
He added that Kolo Yusuf, the commissioner of police, commended the police operatives and vigilantes for the successful rescue operation.
Yusuf also congratulated the victims for regaining their freedom and reiterated the police’s continued determination to rid the state of crime.
There have been several cases of kidnap across the country in the past year.
In March, five daughters of Abubakar Furfuri, a former accountant-general in Zamfara, were abducted.
The girls were reportedly abducted in their home in Furfuri, a community in Bungudu LGA of the state. However, they were later released in November.
