… I’m on mission to rid Kaduna of crime, says new CP
Kaduna State Police Commissioner Ali Janga yesterday paraded 56 suspected criminals, including kidnappers and armed bandits, declaring that he is on a mission to rid the state of crimes and criminalities.
Janga, who paraded the suspects at the police command headquarters in Kaduna yesterday, also warned that the state capital would not be a safe haven for criminals fleeing from other states.
He, however, assured that the police command under him would work strictly based on international core values of policing with integrity.
The CP said: “We have embarked on intensive manhunt of bandits and other criminals that attack people while pursuing their normal businesses within the command with a view to arresting and bringing all the culprits to book.
“The command has recorded some successes within the past two weeks with the arrest of 56 suspects for different crimes and belonging to different suspected criminal gangs terrorising citizens and recovery of exhibits respectively.
“Nine suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping, nine suspects for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, mischief by fire, inciting disturbance and causing grievous hurt, two suspects for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide and four suspects for criminal conspiracy and theft.
“Also, 15 for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery thuggery, Illegal possession of a firearm and having in possession of illicit drugs, four suspects for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, thuggery and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons and five suspects for criminal conspiracy and vandalisation, theft and receiving stolen property, five suspects for criminal conspiracy, public nuisance, smoking in public places and belonging to the gang of wandering brigands and one suspect for criminal conspiracy, shop breaking and theft.”
The CP added that items recovered from the suspects included “one locally-made double barrel short-gun, one Toyota Bus Reg. NO. XB119SMN, one White Toyota Hilux Reg. NO. BRK 901 AA, two Volkswagen Golf 3 Saloon, one Toyota Corolla (Ash) Reg. No. BGW971RP, 1 Honda EOD (Ash) Reg. No. ABC 846GP, the sum of N500,000, two unregistered Boxer motorcycles, three Long Gas Cylinders, one Short Cylinder with Burner and two shock absorbers /other scrap iron of burnt Sienna Vehicle.
Others include some vandalised implements, six rolls of electric cable, some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, three plasma TV, one Bajaj Motorcycle, five sharp knives, 12 sachets of diazepam, 30 tablets of exhale, 68 tablets diazepam 5 and assorted charms.
He, however, assured residents that under his watch as Commissioner of Police, he would intensify efforts in “fighting crime while at the same time respecting the fundamental rights of all individuals and upholding the principle of zero-tolerance to corruption, impunity and indiscipline for successful democratic governance”.
