To mark this years international day of the girl child, The Nigerian Association For Women Journalist, Oyo State Chapter has called on the Oyo State Government to make snapy their actions towards achieving a befitting Family Court for the State.
The Oyo State NAWOJ chairperson Jadesola Ajibola made this known today 15th October at the NAWOJ Headquarters in NUJ Quarters Iyaganku, Ibadan, during a press briefing on the International Girl Child Day.
According to Jadesola she said Oyo State is the only State in the southwest that does not have a functional family court
” Oyo State remains the only State in the south west that has not until now have an edifice that we can call Family Court”.
“Family Court is the only viable and the only source where the violence against gender based issue can be solved, the family court will help us ensure that girls that are being violated gets justice.”
“We at the NAWOJ are always advocate for a better society, we are here saying there is no room for any molestations against the girl child and women as a whole. These molestations against our women must stopped.
She further pleaded with the State Government to help in renovating the family court located at Iyaganku area of Ibadan so that our women and girls can get justice
“We have been to the ministry of women affairs and we met the commissioner for women Affairs Alhaja Faosat Sanni who assured us that the said project will be looked into but we want the Governor to go there and see for himself and it is then he can know where and how to help the projects, we plead with the Government to ensure that family court kick-start before the end of this year.”
This State is known for setting the pace, and we want our Governor to look into this, as this will go a long way in setting our records straight and also reduce the level of Women and girl child maltreatment to the bearest minimum in our society.” Jadesola said.
