The commissioner of police in Oyo state, Ngozi Onadeko on Saturday restored calmness amongst the angry youths in Ibarapa who attempted create chaos during the local government elections conducted accross all the local government areas in the state.
The Commissioner of Police who was also on patrol monitoring electoral processes with her team took to various parts of the state to ensure that everyone stays clear off violence.
After being briefed about the outrage in Eruwa town, the CP and her entourage arrived in time to calm the situation.
According to Taiwo Salami one of the protesters, the hoodlums came in with about 18 commercial buses and armed with dangerous weapons.
‘The hoodlums came in about 18 commercial buses and started shooting sporadically at anybody at sight just to scare us away, and they succeeded in snatching away all the ballot boxes meant for us here, and with that we couldn’t vote.’ he said
The youths also alleged that the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin sent the thugs so as to distrupt the election hereby carting away sensitive materials from various polling units.
It was also disclosed that the polling units affected are units in New and Main Eruwa town with Ward 1,2,3,4,5 and 6.
After much persuation from the CP, the youths led by Taiwo Salami promised to cooperate with the authorities and not cause any more trouble.
