About one hundred and sixty three water facilities and three hundred and twenty six gender friendly latrines have been provided by the Osun State Government in the public schools for effective menstrual hygiene management.
The Programme Manager, Osun State Rural Water Environmental Sanitation Agency, RUWESA, Alhaji Posi Adiatu stated this in Osogbo while speaking on the occasion of 2017 Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Adiatu, noted that government was committed to provision of water facilities in schools line with global best practices to ease the burden of female students in the management of their monthly rituals.
The programme manager hinted that menstrual hygiene day was meant to bring together
Individual, Organisations, and Media to create a united and strong voice for women and girls around the world on menstrual hygiene management.
He said effective menstrual management was the process whereby women and adolescent girls using a clean menstrual hygiene management materials to absorb and collect blood that could be changed in privacy as necessary for duration of the mensuration period.
Adiatu, disclosed that the state in collaboration with EU/UNICEF and AFDB had created awareness on perceived silence on mensuration and its management through workshop for Parents, Teachers and School Administrators.
The PM, called for involvement of stakeholders towards the promotion and practice of safe menstrual hygiene management as well as creation of enabling environment in schools through provision of toilets and water facilities.
In a remark, the Special Adviser to the governor onĀ RUWESA, Mr Segun Olanibi noted that government would continue to provide necessary facilities in schools to aid teaching and learning.
Olanibi, who hinted that healthy living of citizens was key to the present administration in the state called for inclusion of Menstrual Hygiene Management in the School Curriculum.
The SA, however urged people of the state to continue to support government in its quest to position the state for socio-economic turnaround.
Meanwhile, every May 28 of each year has been set aside as World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
