The entire workers in Osun State has called for urgent review of workers salary in Nigeria which they said, remained the viable option to resolve the current economic recession and improved the welfare of the workers in the country.
The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Osun State, Comrade Jacob Babatunde Adekomi, stated this on Thursday in Osogbo at a one day workshop for the public servants in the state.
The workshop with a theme: “Sustaining The Confidence of Workers in the Period of Economic Recession” was organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC and the Public Service Joint Negotiating Council.
Adekomi, opined that the review of workers salary has become imperative in the face of the current economic challenges and in line with global practice of five years review period.
He noted that the workshop was aimed at reposing confidence in workers on the best way to manage recession as well as rekindle their hope on the better days ahead.
The NLC boss called on the government to develop holistic approach in tackling the current economic challenges by diversifying the nations economy to other sectors.
Declaring the workshop open, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who was ably represented by the Special Adviser to governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Bisi Odewumi, said the government was committed to the welfare of workers hence the need to fashion the method for payment of the modulated salary’s to worker’s in the face of economic recession.
Oyetola, reinstated the readiness of the government to pay the backlog of salary’s arrears as soon as the economy of the state improves.
He said the government understand the pains of the workers and will continue to do everything within his limit to better their lots.
