Osun 2018: Gov. Aspirant, ROVET pledges monarchs’ inclusion into cabinet

Ahead of the 2018 governorship election in the State of Virtue, one of
the contestants for the number one seat, Otunba Adebayo Walliyulahi
fondly called ROVET disclosed monarchs remain the closest contacts to
the grassroots and such, for inclusive governance of rural dwellers
must be co-opted as non-portfolio commissioners for the advantage of
grassroots settlers.

Otunbayo said monarchs are central to the emergence of government in a
democratic setting and well informed of peoples lacks. He noted
appointing Obas as non-portfolio commissioners will address absence of
governance dividends at rural settlements and liberate her people from
political apathy.

He made the disclosure while paying homage to the Oluwo of Iwo in his
palace yesterday shortly after his declaration in his ward in Iwo to
contest for the Governor of Osun State.

He further hinted that monarchs are well-versed in administrative
prowess than any other, praying for their involvement in political
discussions/decisions to liberate electorates from making wrong choice
while exercising their franchise. He beseeched Obas to re-enact
themselves into political diary in the political, economic, social and
religious happenings as the custodian of all. He berated the political
status of monarchs as ridiculous, promising better recognition of
kings if elected governor.

Otunba ROVET beseeched Obas to rejig the political institutions with
active participation as obtainable in Northern Nigeria. He noted
northern kings are revered, central and take front lead in the
selection of who represents their constituency in different political
offices but lamented the experience in Yorubaland as disheartening for
politicians threatening to dethrone an Oba. “So ridiculous”-he said.

Retorting to the speculation of his political experience, he pointed
there is no certificate to be called a politician. He said he is a
manager of all resources-Human, material, financial, cultural,
religious to mention but a few. In a context in dictionary
‘Politicians” is defined as “a person who acts in a manipulative and
devious way, typically to gain advancement within an organization”.
According to him, the above definition, although exclusive is working
machinery in Nigeria context. “So, I don`t want to be a politician, I
prefer to be a manager than politician.

“Monarchs are the custodians of not only cultural but also political
regalia. They are central to collective governance of all status. Obas
should be primary decision makers in modern democratic settings as the
closest fathers to the people. They must be included in policy
formulation and decision making of any responsive and responsible
monarchs. Osun is thirsty of administrative prowess of monarchs to
liberate citizen from ageing quagmire planted by inexperience managers
of all resources. One of the best means is the incorporation of
traditional rulers into policy formulation/execution” said ROVET.

“The administrative set up of Nigeria is porous. The traditional
institution should be strengthened and equip with government resources
for even distribution of dividends of democracy. Obas know the
strength and weakness of his subjects; they evaluate better and share
resources accordingly. The best any government can do is the autonomy
of local authorities and traditional institutions”
