The Attorney-General of the United Kingdom has given consent to take the trial of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, on charges of conspiracy and organ harvesting to the Central Criminal Court in London.
By so doing, the case would not be treated by the magistrate court.
The Ekweremadus appeared at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Thursday (today) where the judge adjourned the case till August 4, 2022.
Ekweremadu and Beatrice are to remain in custody till the next hearing.
The Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court had last Thursday adjourned the trial of Ekweremadu and Beatrice to July 7, today.
He faces a charge of conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person for exploitation under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
However, when the case came up on Thursday, the judge adjourned the case till August 4, 2022, and ordered that the Ekweremadus should remain in custody till the next hearing.
It had earlier been reported that Ekweremadu and Beatrice were arrested by the London Metropolitan Police on June 23, 2022, and charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
Ekweremadu had since pleaded not guilty to the charges.
