Selfless leadership and general commitment to build in unity is all that Ekiti State need for economic liftings and emancipation from lingering political stagnations.
All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, dropped this hint ahead of the governorship primary election slated for January 2022.
For a smooth sail to victory, the Australia based physician and business mogul, prescribed that all party members must be ready to don the garb of selflessness and come together to form a formidable front that can confront pending elections.
According to him, Ekiti can only grow to an economic and politically buoyant entity if the people are ready to put the interest of the state first and channel energy towards credibility and merit in deciding who mount the saddle of affairs in the state in the coming governorship elections.
“APC can only come victorious when we are all ready to bury personal interests by allowing party and people’s interests to flourish,” he said.
Oluyede who spoke in a telephone interview from his base in Australia, said he can only be happy when he sees the Ekiti of his dream, where quality education, economic prosperity, political maturity equity and fairplay flourish.
He bemoans the ongoing polarization of the APC in Ekiti State and urged the governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi to take urgent steps of honour towards ensuring that sufficient life is given the dehydrating party, so as to give it the needed energy to surmount coming elections.
The APC chieftain condemns the lingering acrimony in the State APC in particular and urged party stakeholders to urgently wade in, and restore sanity.
“Our party in Ekiti State is obviously passing through a very rife turbulence at a very dangerous time. A lot of our members are bitter and justifiably too. There is pressing need to appease them, come together as one big family to resolve cogent electoral issues in the interest of the party, so that we can sustain our relevance in coming elections.
“Yes, some ominous mistakes have been made. Some of our leaders feel wronged and they have the right to feel so, if their expectations are seemingly not met by the current administration. I am also aware that, as a people, we need to guide our loins to play healthy politics across board, so we can bequeath a state, devoid of distrust and lack. I think what we need at this point is to all work together selflessly in the interest of our great party.
“Three years into a government is long. But a year is also long enough to make necessary amends, assuage hurt nerves, appease bruised souls, concede to some things, forgive ourselves and forge ahead as one big family to confront the political challenges ahead,” he said.
Dr Oluyede said; tolerance and cooperation are all the APC needed to be able to come out victorious in the governorship elections and beyond.
By his assessment, the state of the APC in Ekiti, as it is, is not palatable to confront pending elections, hence the urgent need for members to come together and work assiduously for the party’s electoral victory in pending polls.
He urged all stakeholders to be resolute to agree and come together in unity to ensure a free, fair and fruitful party primary that would midwife a credible, people-friendly and a resourceful governorship flagbearer for the party, come next year.
He noted that victory would only come when those charged with the responsibility to conduct the primary do a thorough and all-embracing job that will restore unity and cohesion to the party.
“We need to invite peace into our midst as one, indivisible APC family. Our house must be put in order to be able to surmount the humongous electoral challenges stirring us all in the face. We need to start accommodating ourselves and create a level playing ground that will guarantee fairness, equity and unity.
“To achieve the needed success in the pending elections, we have no option than to all roll up our sleeves, work together, so we can face the electoral turbulence headlong and come out of it victorious,” he said.
