The Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs,Senator Babafemi Ojudu has congratulated the newly elected France President, Mr. Emmanuel Macron on his recent victory at the Polls.
Thirty-nine year old Independent centrist, Macron, defeated Front National’s right-wing leader, Marine Le Pen in the run-off election conducted yesterday. Mr. Macron won almost two thirds of the total votes cast to emerge France’s youngest-ever president.
The French election which commenced on the 23rd of April and ended two weeks later, had Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the Special Adviser to the President on Politcal Matters leading the Nigerian government’s team of observers to Paris for the first round of the exercise.
Speaking in Abuja, Senator Ojudu congratulated the president-elect , Macron, for a well-deserved victory, noting that the peaceful conduct of the French election without any hindrance to economic activities across the country buttresses the fact that democracy has gone up a notch in that country as with other parts of the developed world.
Ojudu said he was impressed by the” voters’ display of orderliness and civility towards one another, as well as their unwavering individual decisions during the entire process.
“In addition, they were honest enough not to attempt multiple voting without being branded with any black, green or red marker on their thumbs like we do here. All they have to do is sign a register to indicate they had voted and receive a card as proof. Furthermore, the professional coordination by electoral officials without any need for the heavy presence of security agents showed how much the French society had evolved since France became a representative democracy in the late 19th Century.”
The Presidential Adviser, pointed out that Nigeria as a nation still has a lot to learn to take her democracy to the next level.
According to him , “with proper orientation and education of voters as well as massive cooperation by politicians, the electorates will be able to make informed choice”.

“Nigerians are good people. The leadership only needs to ensure an enabling environment to foster knowledge and the kind of education that engenders peaceful and well conducted election like we have in the developed nations of the world, he added.
