Oduduwa University Ile-Ife, in Osun State, has said that, the five students that was remanded by the Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and membership prohibited secret cult recently were no longer students of the university.
Briefing journalists on Friday on the status of the arrested students, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Chibuzo Nwoke, said the remanded students had been expelled from the university since June of this year.
The five suspects who were remanded for illegal possession of fire arms and cultism claimed to be students of the university.
Professor Nwoke noted that the Oduduwa University had zero tolerance for cultism hence the need to expelled the suspected students after being indicted of some atrocities in the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor hinted that the university had set up a committee for sustenance of peace within the institution and its environs due to the closeness of the university to motor park.
He maintained that the university was keen to provision of security in the campus, saying the university had secured the combined service of men of Nigeria Police, Civil Defence Corps, DSS and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the university.
Professor Nwoke, explained that in the nineth (9) years history of the university, it has never recorded any cases of cultism, violence as well as students unrest, pointed out that the university had put measure in place to test character of applicant before being admitted to the Ivory-Tower.
He assured parents that the university was free of cultists and other vices as the institution had secured the university with both internal and external security.
Professor Nwoke, strongly appealed to the students to be studious and eschew acts capable of soiling the image of the institution, saying the university would continue to maintain its leading position in character moulding and academic excellence.
The voiced chancellor called on parents and guardians to always pay attention to the ways of life of their children to assist the university to beam searchlight of the student for corrective measure.
Meanwhile, the four suspects arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo are Olabanji Michael(23), Adewusi Michael (23), Oyinbo Kehinde (21) and Afolabi Yusuf (23) while the charge listed against them bordered on conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to a secret cult.
