Nigerian legends Segun Odegbami and Mutiu Adepoju, as well as Senior Assistant, Multimedia, to the sports minister, Toyin Ibitoye have been named in the committee that will screen and select pioneer set of students for the newly established Lanreleke Sports Academy in Ileogbo, Osun State on August 24.
Forty students — 30 boys and 10 girls – who will enjoy full scholarships, will be selected as the pioneer group for the academy which will begin academic work in October.
According to the Administrator, Lanreleke Sports Academy, Chike Egbunu, who is also a member of the screening and selectfion committee, the exercise will take place in venues across five states in Nigeria.
The venues are Hussey College, Warri in Delta State (August 24); University of Benin Sports Complex, Benin City, Edo State (August 25); Campos Ground, Lagos Island (August 30), University of Ibadan Sports Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State (Sept 1) and the Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Centre, Ile Ife, Osun State (Sept 7).
He added that the students would not be above 14 years by October 1, 2021. They must also have the minimum educational qualification of – the Junior Secondary School Certificate — or would have obtained their first and second term JSS 3 results, alongside possessing special abilities to engage in sports, excelling in at least one of football, basketball, athletics and tennis.
