Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike on Thursday rewarded Rivers United players along with their officials with the sum of $20,000, over 12 million naira, each for winning the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Port Harcourt based club won the state’s first ever NPFL title with a record 77 points this season after many failed attempts.
The Governor also conferred on each member of the team the Governor’s Merit Service Award (GMSA) for their performance in the just-concluded NPFL season.
He also announced that the club will camp in Madrid for two weeks in preparation for their 2022/23 CAF Champions League campaign.
“Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike rewards members of Rivers United FC with $20,000 each for winning the @Llll#NPFL22 season,” the club announced via its Facebook page.
“He says the team will stay two weeks in Madrid to prepare for next season’s CAF Champions League.”
