Nigeria government led by President Muhammed Buhari has been tasked to
launch the establishment of more anti-graft agencies to complement the
existing Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related offences (ICPC) in
combating corruption.
The called was made by the first class monarch, Oluwo of Iwo, HIM Oba
Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi while speaking to journalists at the public presentation of a book held at Ikeja, Lagos State yesterday titled “The Legislature and the Path to Democratic Consolidation” authored by a political scientist, Remi Durojaiye.
Akanbi said federal government has to strengthen the anti-graft
agencies and establish more to address deluge of the menace to make
the country great again.
Oluwo mandated all political parties to incorporate convincing
anti-corruption as one among their respective primary agendum,
appealing to electorates to reject parties and her candidates with no
convincing provision for combating corruption. He described most
politicians as the number one enemy of Nigeria amassing the nation`s
collective wealth for personal aggrandizement.
In his words “Nigeria need more anti-corruption agencies to arrest
corruption in Nigeria. EFCC and IVCPC is not enough, there are still
more hidden cases. BVN has revealed just little. Nigeria need more
agencies that will fight and prosecute corruption that has dragged us
so backward”
Oba Akanbi lauded the federal government for initiating cash and
cashless anti-corruption programmes that has earned Nigeria more than
#400 billion, reiterating his support for nailing corrupt public and
civil servants. It is insanity that prompts a man to steal billions
while millions Nigerians are hungry. It is callousness and madness of
highest order. It is condemnable, inhuman, uncivilized and
retrogressing.
The monarch hinted corruption is more suicidal and destructive than
aids in Nigeria, saying it has killed and jeopardized many Nigerians
who were direct and indirect victims of corruption. Oba Akanbi
discredited Nigerians especially the youth for promoting corruption
through subjective sycophancy of polluted politicians milking our
treasury at the country`s detriment.
He condemned most Nigeria youth ailing corrupt politicians as
illiterates and disgraceful, admonishing them to redirect their
support to virile candidates having collective interest of all and
sundry at heart.
The monarch lamented the prevalent of lootings as condemnable, praying
Nigerians to uphold the fight against the menace by the incumbent
administration for the interest of the country and Nigerians. He
disclosed Nigeria is blessed with all resources to the advantage of
all but leaders have been acting to the country`s disadvantage for
their egocentric interest.
“Nigeria number one snag is corruption. It is the clog in the wheel of
progress of the country. Remove corruption from Nigeria, you will see
us growing younger and reclaiming our loss glory. Imagine a nation
blessed with all resources but lagging behind owing to looting of our
collective treasuries by some egocentric interest. Nothing will work
fine when a soul stole what can feed a million souls”
“Corruption is the major snag to our existence in Nigeria, very
destructive and stereotypically associated with Nigerians especially
selfish servants calling themselves public servants. Arrest and bury
it, you see us great again. We must support whoever preaches against
the deadly menace. If we refuse to curtail it, it will consume us and
we cease to exist. Corruption its perpetrators are the first enemies
of Nigeria” said Oluwo.
