Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, says the September 19 governorship election in the state, will put a final end to godfatherism.
Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke during his ward to ward campaign tour across Esan north-east local government area.
He said the election is very vital, not just for the state, but the country, as the decision had to be made whether or not the state should move forward.
Describing Edo central senatorial district as a PDP enclave, he urged members of the party and its supporters not to succumb to threats and intimidation.
Earlier, Dan Orbih, chairman of the PDP state campaign council, urged party members to “keep vigil” towards ensuring that votes counte in the election.
Orbih said the party will mobilise its members and supporters to vote, and ensure that the votes count in the end.
“We will not sleep. We are doing everything possible to ensure that you vote and votes count. We will not allow anybody to subvert the will of the people,” he said.
“In this election, we will not only vote, but, we must defend our votes.”
