Former United players to have donned the same number as the Nigerian are Jordi Cruyff, Antonio Valencia, Nick Powell, Danny Simpson and Quinton Fortune.
Ighalo sealed a last-minute Deadline Day loan move to United from Shanghai Shenhua, Chinese Super League side, after a desperate search for a striker.
The former Watford FC striker arrived Manchester on Sunday, hoping he can provide a cutting edge after they failed to score in three successive Premier League matches for the first time since October 2016.
He is expected to travel with the rest of his teammates to their winter training camp.
The 30-year-old Lagos-based star could make his debut against fourth-placed Chelsea on February 17.
He drew the curtain on his international career at the end of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after emerging top scorer — equalling Yekini’s record of a five-goal AFCON golden boot.
The Super Eagles star scored five goals in the 32nd edition of the African football showpiece in Egypt.
Ighalo became the second player after late Rashidi Yekini to have amassed five goals for Nigeria in the tournament.
