Motorists on Highway 401 eastbound in Mississauga will need to prepare themselves for a week’s worth of slow commutes due to construction.
The express lanes of the highway from east of Winston Churchill Boulevard to approaching Mavis Road were supposed to be closed at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
However, the construction company told CityNews they ran into issues and were not able to close the lanes as scheduled, so they remain open at this time.
The company said the lanes are scheduled to be closed this evening but have not yet indicated an exact time.
A notice from West Corridor Constructors – the consortium responsible for the recent expansion project on Highway 401 in Milton and Mississauga – said the closure is needed to “facilitate construction activities as part of remaining seasonal works.”
A spokesperson for Aecon Group told CityNews part of the work includes resurfacing in the area east of Mississauga Road.
“Crews will be working on structural and finishing works including paving activities at the CP Rail bridge” spokesperson Bella Santos said.
The seven-day closure of the express lanes is expected to be in place straight through until next Wednesday, June 28, at 5 a.m.
The collector lanes will remain open through the area.
