….The first Toronto-bound flight will depart from Frankfurt on June 3.
It looks like more flights just got added to Pearson’s schedule this summer. Lufthansa announced on Thursday that they are planning to offer international flights from Toronto starting this June. However, all passengers are being asked to wear a mask while on board.
In a press release, the popular airline announced that Toronto will be one of the many stops that are expected to be added to its service.
These trips will be from Toronto to Frankfurt and take place three times a week.
The first Toronto-bound flight is scheduled to depart Frankfurt on June 3 before returning to Germany the following day.
However, Lufthansa does warn that these flights are “subject to possible travel restrictions.”
According to Radio Canada International, the German airline is also looking to add flights to Montreal and Vancouver later this summer, yet no dates have been released.
The flights are a far cry from what Lufthansa offered before the outbreak.
The group provided 64 flights a week to Canada in the summer. However, it halved that number during the winter.
The Lufthansa Group stated that it is planning to offer 1,800 weekly roundtrips to over 130 destinations by the end of June.
With the June flight schedule, we are making an important contribution to the revitalization of the aviation infrastructure. It is an essential part of the German and European economic power. People want to and can travel again, whether on holiday or for business reasons,” said Harry Hohmeister, Member of the Executive Board of Lufthansa.
“That’s why we will continue to expand our offer step by step in the coming months and connect Europe with each other and Europe with the world,” he added.
However, the company also warns that there will be a few changes made to flying once their service starts up again.
“Passengers will continue to be asked to wear a nose-and-mouth cover on board during the entire journey,” read the statement.
Passenger seating will also be spread out as much as possible on these flights.
Lufthansa isn’t the only international airline planning on adding flights over the next few weeks.
Emirates Airlines will take to the skies on May 21, offering flights to nine global destinations, including trips to Toronto.
All passengers will be required to pass extensive screenings to board the flights.
Emirates announced on May 13 that the airline would be travelling to London Heathrow, Paris, Frankfurt, Chicago, Madrid, Milan, Sydney, Melbourne, and Toronto.
