Lagos State has urged childminders and daycare owners in preschools to prioritise health and safety of children in their care.
Director General of Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC), Mr. Lanre Mojola, said this during a training for health and safety of child minders, career preschool and daycare owners.
It was organised by LSSC, in collaboration with Sufumonde Limited, at Corona Schools, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Mojola, represented by Director of School Safety, Mr. Olatunde Ajose, said the care of young children in groups was a profession, adding that “we need to make it possible for people to study the science and practise the art of caregiving.”
He noted that children should be monitored to prevent them from harming themselves and their peers.
Managing Director of Sufumonde Limited, Mrs. Bolanle Adesan, stressed the need to guard, guide and train infants at their early stage and avoid all that could harm them, such as wet floors, mitigation of water spill, etc.
The former director of the agency, Olusola Ipaye, said it was the duty of minders and caregivers to keep children safe and out of harm.
