The Lagos Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce) has debunked a news story published through an online blog (mushinespublisher.blogspot.com) accusing the Agency’s operatives of killing one individual named ‘Kaka’.
In a rejoinder, the Agency debunked the contents of the story as published by the blog, describing it as malicious and false in its entirety.
It explained that the facts of the incident were that on Thursday, 26th of September, 2019 around 11 pm, some hoodlums were trying to hijack the park from members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) which led to a serious clash where innocent members of the public were wounded and properties including vehicles destroyed.
The report said that operatives of the Agency, in response to a distress call, went to the scene of the incident to restore law and order and subsequently went to the area the following day (Friday, 27th of September, 2019) to further ensure that the area was calm and peaceful as well as ease traffic movement in the axis.
The statement noted that in the course of maintaining the peace, some miscreants and hoodlums launched an attack on personnel of the Agency with dangerous weapons and wounded some of the officers. However, the attack was successfully quelled and some of the suspects arrested at the scene by the Taskforce men.
“On the way back to the office at Bolade, one of the arrested miscreants who was suspected to have taken an overdose of illegal drugs, started vomiting white substances and was immediately rushed down to Lagos State Emergency Centre by toll-gate where he eventually gave up the ghost as confirmed by the doctor”, the statement added.
The release averred that the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, therefore, directed that the corpse be deposited in the Mortuary at Ikorodu General Hospital and would be released to members of his family after conclusion of the autopsy.
