Lagos seeks solutions to security challenges

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday
said it would develop comprehensive strategy and home-grown solutions to
security challenges in the state.

The government added that plans had been
concluded for a security summit where solutions would be developed by
stakeholders to challenges such as cultism, drug abuse and arms
proliferation, among others.

The Executive Secretary, Lagos State
Security Trust Fund, Dr Abdurrazaq Balogun, who stated this at a press
briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, added that the summit had been scheduled for
April 9 on Victoria Island.

He stated further that topics, including
terrorism, transnational crimes, intelligence and community policing,
would be examined at the summit.

“The idea of the summit followed a
pledge by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the annual town hall meeting on
security last year to convene a larger platform for a more robust
deliberation on current security issues, and to proffer solutions which
can be implemented by the government,” Balogun said.

He added that the summit with the theme,
‘Securing Lagos State: Towards a Sustainable Framework for a Modern
Mega City,’ would provide a platform to share knowledge and make
recommendations for a sustainable security framework for the state.

In his speech, the Special Adviser to
the Governor on Oversees Affairs and Investment, Prof. Ademola Abass,
said the traffic summit held by the present administration at inception
helped in developing solutions to traffic challenges in the state,
adding that the security summit would come with sustainable solutions to
security challenges.
