Kogi West: Melaye’s recall process enters third stage, as 188,588 sign recall notice

The process embarked upon by the constituents of Kogi West Senatorial District to recall their representative, Senator Dino Melaye from the upper chamber of the National Assembly has reached its third stage as 188,588 eligible voters have signed in support of the move

According to the returning officer of the group spearheading the process, Adamu Yusuf, he revealed that the first stage was the compilation and signing of names of voters and their electoral particulars that qualifies them to participate in the recall exercise which ended on Thursday last week in the seven local government areas of the senatorial district.

The second step according to the returning officer was the collation of the results of the exercise from all the polling units to the electoral wards and the total result computed at Kabba the headquarters of the senatorial district.

Delegates across political parties from each electoral ward converged on Lokoja yesterday for the announcement of the result by the returning officer to mark the 3rd step of the cumbersome process.
Adamu Usman, the returning officer, who unveiled the result stated that out of the total 360,098 registered voters in the West Senatorial District, 188,588 eligible voters representing 52.3 percent signaled their intention to recall Senator Melaye.

He gave the breakdown as follows, Yagba East 35,331registered voters with 18,374 (52%), Mopa/Muro 18,356 registered voters, with 9,186(50.24%), Kabba/Bunu 60,522 total registered, while 28,277signed for recall ,Yagba West 35,968 total registered voters, 20,007 for recall, Kogi 46,810 total registered 24,793 sign for recall, Lokoja LGA 116,296 total registered, 63,734for recall and Ijumu 46,819 with 24,283 opting for recall

The returning officer therefore declared that that the petitioners have met the first requirement to recall Senator Dino Melaye.

The constituents while congratulating themselves for the success, however vowed to pursue with vigour to scale over the remaining hurdles.
