Conveners of Down To Heart Organisation has told students in various secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State to raise their voice against any sexual assault.
This was made know through a three day Sensitization programme tagged ‘Guarding & Guiding Yourself Against Rape And Molestation’ which kicked 4start on November 30, 2020 in some secondary schools in the state.
According to one of the conveners of the organisation, Adejoke Oyeleke who was part of the team that enlightened the students, she admonished the female students to speak up so as to savage themselves from troubles.
She explained further that the boy child also goes through molestation in the hands of an older male or female person as it is not only the female child who is vulnerable in the society.
Also while addressing the students, former principal of Oke Bola Comprehensive High school Wuraola Adepoju admonished students on the need to keep their body safe from molesters and speak up when necessary.
She mentioned that it is necessary to stay clear from what God detects which is sin, and molestation is a sin and anyone caught in the act will be punished by the law.
She said: Rape is a great sin and God is not happy with anyone that indulges in that act. Anyone that rapes is not a human being but an animal, as you know that a right thinking person will not want to forcefully take what does not belong to him. She stressed.
Adepoju further noted that some men cannot do away with committing crimes and it is the duty of the female folk to put them in check which is why the Down to Heart Organisation came into existence.
While stressing her points, she encouraged the students not to be ashamed to report a rape case to the authorities adding that the offender will not go unpunished as the child’s right act has been made available for all.
“If you refuse to speak out, you have given the perpetrator the opportunity to molest another victim. You are covered with the childs right act, and the government and organization like ours are there to take up your challenges.” She said
The former principal thereafter gave advise to the students of the schools visited that they should be contented with whatever is given to them by their parents and stop receiving gifts from the opposite sex as this can be used as a way to lure and sexually assault them.
She urged the students not to give anyone access to their private part as it belongs to them alone.
Some of the schools visited by the organisation in Ibadan include: Ansar-ud-deen Society Grammer school, St. Theresa Girls College Oke Ado amongst others.
