A non governmental and non political group, the Ibadan Social Group of Nigeria, has supported Oyo State government by providing food stuffs worth over N2M to the Masses of the State as a relief materials for the partially lockdown order due to convid-19.
While distributing food for the beneficiaries at the ISG Building Iyaganku GRA Ibadan recently, the National President of the Group, Mr. Oladele Bakare said the beneficiaries were selected from all the local government areas within Ibadan metropolis.
He said, “we look critically at how we are going to reach out to the less privilege in our society so that we can assist them during this partial lockdown order in the State as regards the Corona Virus.
We asked the Micro Finance Institutions in those locations to give us the names of the petty traders that are patronizing them, and we started calling those people to come and collect these relief materials.
Mr. Bakare further stated that the group need to come to the help of the masses, just to assist them at this difficult period, though here in Oyo State, we have partial lockdown, most of the businesses are not functioning well and I can tell you that most of our people in this state cannot even get their breakfast if they don’t go out to hustle, and I think that is the reason why our Governor has decided that there should not be a total lockdown order in the State.
“We need to assist them with whatever we have, I urge all the meaningful Nigerians, individuals, group like us to help the needy in our society, especially at this critical period, we should not leave everything to government, we have to assist the government, as government alone cannot do it, it should be a collective efforts.
The materials we shared are basically food items ranging from Dry fish, Rice, Beans, Gari, Dry Pepper, Indomie packs and the sum of N500 for their transportation fare to their various locations, and I can tell you that those food items will at least last each household for a period of two weeks.
Speaking with one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Islamiat Dauda, she prayed for the group and also urged some groups and individuals that are well to do in the society to take a cue from what ISG has done.
She said, I’m very impressed with this gift, it shows the type of people that are in the group, they are kind people, they don’t know us, I just received their calls yesterday evening, and the next thing they messaged me the address of this place and when I got here, I’m amazed with the type of food stuffs I was given, and I was also given N500 for my transportation, in fact this is so genuine, I pray that God will continue to uplift them all.
