Yesterday, I was walking innocently to observe my fourth mandatory prayers of the day. As I was approaching the prayer centre (Mosque), I noticed an acquainted pothole has been filled with mud. What caught my mind was why mud and by who? Then, I saw five children beside the road preparing a mud and dressing the dilapidated portion with the mud. The children filled and dressed the potholes. Suddenly, a thought came to mind “How could this children be wise to think of filling a bad portion of the road at such a tender age” I queried myself.
Then, I told my mind “That is one of the traits of every reasonable son and daughter of Ileogbo. We are one of the most responsible set and generation of the Yorubas. Responsiveness is one of our values. There is no age barrier to responsiveness in Ileogbo”
Above is the description of many of us. Ileogbo is a town of many first in community service development. In less than two years after the ground breaking, one of the illustrious sons of Ileogbo, Engr. Abel Adeleke, built a first class Sports Academy, first of its kind in the South Western Nigeria aside Lagos.
Engr. Lanre, the CEO of Peculiar Ultimate Consult, a foremost construction firm delivered the project as pledged and academic activities commenced immediately. Popularly call Engr. TJ, he had fully tarred, constructed
and donated the old Ileogbo-Iwo road for the use of Nigerians. The road was an addendum to many self sponsored community projects donated by sons and daughters of the soil. Leading in the lists are, ten boreholes donated by the Gbako man insurance Magnate, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, solar street lights and charging ports by the Olasisoye born engineer, Prince Semiu Odeyinka, Omoyiola Free Medical Centre promoted by Princess Adeteju Ogunrinde nee Aderibigbe of Aderibigbe’s compound, and many scholarships by known and anonymous individual. Prof. Yemisi Obilade, a former VC of Tai Solarin University of Education is a promoter of girls right and scholarship among others.
The coming of the sports academy with first class facilities such as stadium, gulf course, shorter course, loading dock etc. The colesium will be design to international taste to host international matches and players. This,will in no small measure open Ileogbo to continental coverage and attention. Economy will boom, individual will rise even without knowing anyone. The sons and daughters of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. Such is a unit of the inherent merit of such a monumental project.
Many youths were rescued from the street of uselessness to that of usefulness.
My happiness is, the good stories of my town has suceeded her weakness.
